Born in Cairo,Egypt in 1952,Midu El Gohary started his professional ballet education at the Cairo Ballet Academy.

After some years he left Egypt to continue his studies in Paris/France where he was educated from Andrei Glegolski (classical ballet) and the "jazz dance legend" Matt Mattox.   His teacher Matt Mattox inspired him to learn more about Modern Dance,so Midu El Gohary  went to the United States to study with Alvin Ailey and José Limon.
After his return to Europe he completed his studies in Great Britain and France with teachers like: Robert North (Modern),Milton Myers(Horton),Carlos Orta(Modern),Wayne Sleep (Jazz) and Alvin McDuffy(Jazz).
In the 70´s he started to teach in different countries in Europe and at the same time he staged his first choreographies. In this time he also co-operated with his best friend Raza Hammadi. After ten years touring around he settled in Austria where he founded his company "Ballet Sphinx" and the Vienna Dance Center.
Since this time he is working as choreographer and teacher with the Ballet Conservatory Vienna, Principal dancers of the Kirov Ballet (Anastasia Volochkova,Diana Vishniova,Vijascheslav Samodurov and others),Cairo Opera Ballet and since 1999 also with the Europe Ballet Conservatory St.Poelten/Austria
